Elite Player Pathway

The Elite Player Pathway

Many parents starting out in the world of football may not know what pathways are available for their daughters.  We have written this brief outline as a guide for players who wish to pursue a career from football.

Start Playing

Join a local grassroots club from the age of 5+.

At AFC Leyton we offer the FA Wildcats programme for girls aged between 5 and 11 years.  And for older girls aged 11 to 17, we offer our Leyton Active programme.

Keep training

It’s important to develop strong football skills and an understanding of competitive matches.  Grassroots football clubs such as AFC Leyton, provide a high standard of coaching including technical sessions and competitive match experiences.

Talent Pathway

Undertake trials with your local Regional Talent Club.  The FA Girls’ England Talent Pathway was put in place to support the identification and development of those with elite potential.

Your coach will be tell you when your daughter is ready to try out for a RTC.

RTC’s local to AFC Leyton are:

  • Essex FA – Tier 2 – EssexRTC@essexfa.com
  • Arsenal Ladies – Tier 1 – acuerden@arsenal.co.uk / tpayne@arsenal.co.uk
  • Charlton Athletic – Tier 3 – charltonwomen@yahoo.co.uk
  • Chelsea – Tier 2 – sarah.charker@ChelseaFC.com
