AFC Leyton Girls 0 – 2 Island Girls
Hera
Lilly-Rose
Joni
Julia
Sibella
Molly B
A tough proposition for the U11s this week with Leyton only able to field 6 players against a well-drilled and experienced Island Girls team.
Despite the deficit, the girls dug deep and battled valiantly, creating chances and pushing Island Girls back for extended periods.
Unfortunately, the visitors were able to press home their numerical advantage and scored midway through the first half.
Leyton didn’t let their heads go down, and there were some excellent moments: Julia dancing past a defender down the left-wing with a text-book Cruyff turn, and Sibella coming close with a shot across the face of goal.
Hera, on her U11s debut, had a really impressive game, making some important first half saves in goal, and linking up the play brilliantly in a second half attacking role.
An unfortunate second half own goal put the home side two goals down, but even then they didn’t give up, pushing Island Girls back deep in their own half in search of a goal.
It was not to be unfortunately, and the game finished 0-2. A result that could likely have been very different with even numbers.
