We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded Grassroots Club of the Year, by the London FA and it demonstrates the commitment of the leadership team and along with the entire coaching team, who have worked really hard and often unsociable hours to make AFC Leyton the warm and welcoming environment it is for girls aged 3 right through to adult women.

As a specialist female only football club, that has no men or boys teams, it’s often much harder to establish yourself in a very male orientated environment.  We’ve not only done that, but embedded quality at every aspect of our service delivery to create long lasting happy memories for our players.

This award means so much to us all, and we thank every single person that voted for us.

Louise McGing, Club Secretary, AFC Leyton (Women & Girls)

Grassroots Club of the Year – AFC Leyton are passionate about girls’ football. During COVID, the club made sure that protocol and pathways are in place (Safeguarding and COVID) with communication and engagement kept players engaged during lockdown, including live football debates called ‘Real Talk’. The club has grown so much, and they are very active in growing the club further as membership had grown from 26 in 2017 to 660 as of March 2021. They are recognised as trailblazers for grassroots women and girls’ football and worthy of this title.
