It’s important to develop strong football skills and an understanding of competitive matches.  Grassroots football clubs such as AFC Leyton, provide a high standard of coaching including technical sessions and competitive match experiences.

Talent Pathway

The FA have set up the Girls and Womens Pathway. A system of options seeking the best of the best across the country. Featuring;

  • Discover my Talent – A place for coaches and clubs to recommend players of high ability to be looked at, as a potential future Lionesses. Find out more here
  • Regional Trials – Playing at regional levels is the next level up on your pathway. We will advise players of Regional trials as we become aware of them and we are heavily involved in the operations of the Waltham Forest Borough team. Find out more here
  • Emerging Talent Centres (ETC) – Emerging Talent Centres are football sessions held by established Football Clubs, offering higher levels of training and environments, These are free to attend and players can be part of an ETC while still playing for their Grassroots club. Find out more here
  • Pro Game Academies – Not to be confused with a club slapping the word ‘Academy’ in their name. There is 2 categories in the Pro Game Academy system Category 1 and 2. Players should not pay to join a Pro Game Academy. These are the next level up from Grassroots, where the levels are noticeably different, it takes dedication, sacrifices and a lot of hard work. But the training environments provide ideal setups to harness the best in players. Find out more here

Your coach will be tell you when your daughter is ready to try out for a ETC and we are happy to provide help and advise for any players looking to this transition across the club at all levels. Our objectives as a grassroots club is get the players to the best level we can with the tools we have at at our disposal. Building strong, confident and independent women and girls both on and off the pitch. We model ourselves on the Academy set up offering the best in class for our members and will support them every step of the way.
