AFC Leyton is London’s only independent, female only grassroots football club that can offer a player pathway. From our youngest team at under 8’s through to our Adobe FA Cup featuring first team. Our ethos is on player development and enjoyment of the beautiful game first, results follow after, we do not believe in winning means everything. This attitude is a good look for the club but teaches players very little. In ensuring our players develop as good strong footballers first the teams results follow as a result.
At Leyton our players win or learn. We never lose!
We do this with our amazing coaches, all of which are UEFA qualified most are UEFA C & B. Our aim is to make players, by teaching them the Leyton DNA from a young age and delivering it on the pitch. This DNA is long standing and is shown in our playing styles from our youngest to our oldest. We play through the team, fast, free-flowing football where the players believe in their own and each others abilities, trusting their team mates creating a whole team effort.
About our trial days
Our confirmed trial dates are:
-
Saturday 28th March
-
Saturday 18th April
-
Saturday 30th May
Your trial begins before you even kick a ball! At Leyton we are more than just a football club, we are a community, made up of selfless volunteers, supportive guardians and dedicated players. All work in sync and respect one another.
This means, your arrival time to the trials along with your preparedness, ability to listen to instructions, learn and give things a go, even if it takes us out of our comfort zone and be helpful and supportive towards other players trialing and towards the club staff.
So some tips for the day.
- Enjoy it! this is the single most important thing. When you enjoy it, you relax and your play becomes more natural and not forced.
- Be punctual and prepared. Lateness is frowned upon and you would be surprised how many times players have turned up to trials with no football boots or shin pads!
- Listen to staff instructions. You cant take in what is being said if your speaking to another trialist at the same time as them speaking.
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions, our coaches are their to help, if your unsure on something its ok to ask them.
- Take risks, try new things! you maybe asked to take part in a drill you have never done before, or use your left foot but are right footed. Dont worry and dont refuse to try it. Give it a try, you may surprise yourself and our coaches.
- Be supportive towards others. Trials can be scary, you maybe nervous. Thats ok and its perfectly normal. But guess what, almost everyone around you probably feels the same as you. So support one another, involve those around you. Football is a team sport, so lets see how good a teammate you are to others.
- Communicate. Don’t be silent during trials or drills, be vocal. Call for the ball, communication is an important skill in football.
- Be patient. Some girls may be bigger or stronger then you, others will be smaller or weaker. But everyone deserves a chance, be patient, support and encourage one another. We are big on building one another up, not tearing each other down.
FAQ’s
Are their any JPL teams trialing?
Yes, we currently have 2 active JPL sides, our U14’s and our U18’s. We are undecided as yet exactly how many we will be fielding in the JPL next season. This decision will likely be made during the off season.
Am I guaranteed a place in a team?
The most honest answer here is no. Our league teams all have limitations on allowed squad numbers as per league and FA rules. We simply do not have the room to sign all players who attend, we wish we could but its just not feasible. However, no player is ever turned away after trials. If you are not offered a trial in one of our league teams, a place in development section will be offered, so don’t lose heart, it does not mean your not good enough, it just means your not ready for this stage yet. Keep training, keep working and keep learning.
When do we hear back?
After the trial sessions, our coaching staff will debrief after the session. They will then feedback their opinions to our club Secretary who will be in touch via email. This is usually within 48 hours of the trial date.
Can I find out on the day?
No, we allow our coaches and staff time to digest the trials and discuss together their views. No one is told on the day of the trials of the decision.
I can’t make any of these dates, will there be others?
These are currently our only planned open trial dates. To enquire about joining a league team please contact secretary@afcleyton.co.uk
