Her Story: Imaan, U9s

come to AFC Leyton.  It’s very welcoming and I love it!

Imaan, U9s Football Story

I think some parents may still think it’s a boys game and not a girls sport too.  But my parents have always encouraged and supported me to play football.

My sister Inaya started to play for AFCLeyton and I used to play with her for fun.  After a while I was selected to join the U8s teams and loved it.  Im currently a centre midfield and forward for the U9s.

I haven’t been playing long but definitely the best memory was being selected to play for a team. I couldn’t wait to put the team shirt on.

If I had to describe myself as a player it would be determined, ambitious, respectful and team player.

What’s it like being a Muslim player?

Being a Muslim player there are certain rules that I have to follow such as covering my arms and legs but other than that it’s no different to any other player.
I think some parents may still think it’s a boys game and not a girls sport too.  But my parents have always encouraged and supported me to play football. My coach Miles is excellent and is very helpful.
For Ramadan 2023, as I am still young I will be keeping some fasts and will still train and play matches as normal.

For other Muslim girls wanting to get into football,  I would say to come to AFC Leyton.  It’s very welcoming and I love it!
