Her Story: Ana, U13 Wyverns

Ana, U13 Wyverns Football Story

Being a Muslim player doesn’t really feel different. Everyone is different and everyone at the club is very welcoming.

I got into football through my friends, who were already part of the team and encouraged me to join as they thought I’d be good in goal.  I play as a Goalkeeper and I love it!

My favourite AFC Leyton memory was my first tournament when we got to the finals.  Even though Im a goalkeeper, I scored the winning goal in the semi-final, which meant we got through!

I would describe myself as a dedicated player because I’m usually the first one at training, I’m enthusiastic and love my team mates. If it’s something I enjoy, I’ll stick to

What’s it like being a muslim player?

Being a Muslim player doesn’t really feel different. Everyone is different and everyone at the club is very welcoming.

My tips during Ramadan would be to rest when you can and during your Sehri, make sure you eat something filling and nourishing. Everyone is different, so do what you feel is right. It’s always hard to start with, so pace yourself and remember to rest and take your time.

My coach supports me and other teammates who are fasting, she always makes sure we know that we can take a break if we need to. My teammates are also supportive.

My advice for other Muslim (or any girls) wanting to get into football is to just go for it! I’ve made amazing friends and have so many opportunities!
